Receiving Area
Your warehouse receiving area is the space allocated to accept, inspect,
and process receiving orders; therefore, it is critical to determine what
space is needed for these processes.
When allocating space for the receiving area, ask these questions:
• What are the size and quantity of shipments?
• What equipment is needed to process and move material into storage?
• Given the flow of material, where are the most efficient bulk storage
locations on site?
Furthermore, we recommend calculating the time taken to put-away mate-
rial from receiving to bulk storage locations. This is an effective method to
identify the most cost effective storage locations. For more information on
